7 Tips for Moving in the Summer

Summer is a couple of months away and so is your big move! View Read Removals 7 tips for moving house in the summer to ensure you’re prepared for moving day.

1. Identify Heat-Sensitive Items

Electronics don’t bode well when left in intense heat. Moving trucks are extremely hot and stuffy in the summer months, so we suggest that you leave your TVs, laptops and other home appliances out of them. Transport your electronics with you in the car and bring them inside as soon as you arrive on moving day to prevent them from overheating.

2. Move Strategically

It’s a well-known fact that the sun is at its hottest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m and only gets hotter as the day goes on. It’s why most removal companies avoid moving in the afternoon and go to work in the early morning instead. If possible, book your home and furniture removals for early morning during mid-week. Most people request to move house on Fridays or the weekends to avoid having to make work or school arrangements, so you’ll have better luck booking your moving date during an off-peak time.

3. Wear Appropriate Clothing on Move-In Day

Moving home in the summer heat can be brutal if you’re not properly equipped to deal with it. We suggest wearing comfortable clothing that’s breathable, loose fitting and ideally white or light coloured to avoid excessive sweating. Wearing light-coloured clothing made from cotton or linen is highly recommended, and we can’t stress enough that you should avoid wearing anything black or dark-coloured that will only trap the sun’s heat. Be sure to wear loads of sunscreen and pack a hat to help keep the sun off your face when you’re outside for a long period of time.

4. Bring Portable Fans for Move-In Day

You and your furniture movers will undoubtedly be sweating when moving heavy boxes to and from your new house during the summer. To avoid having a member of your team become dehydrated or suffer a heatstroke, we suggest that you bring portable fans with you on the big day to help everyone stay calm and cool. Battery-operated fans are best to place in the doorway of your new house since they don’t require the electricity to be turned on ahead of time.

5. Supply Ice-Cold Towels

Moving in the summer is hot, no two ways about it. We suggest that you pack a cooler filled with ice-cold water and place a bunch of washcloths and towels into it to keep you and your team refreshed. Throwing a cold towel on your neck is a quick way to reduce your body temperature and revitalise yourself throughout the day.

6. Plan Ahead

Summer is peak moving season in the UK. Temperatures will soar, and unfortunately, so will moving costs if you don’t plan ahead. Peterborough removal companies will be booked out well in advance due to the high surge in demand, so schedule your home removals and survey as soon as you determine a moving date. Be sure to compare removal quotes to ensure that you’re getting the best deal possible on your home removal services.

7. Pack an Essentials Box

Be sure to keep an essentials box with you on the day of the big move. You’ll want to pack water bottles, food, cold drinks, a change of clothes, hair care products, toothpaste and a toothbrush for after the move to help you freshen up and remove any sweat from a long day.
