If you check the website or Yellow Page entries for removal companies you will see a bewildering array of accreditations and logos. The ones that matter are as follows:

Member of The British Association of Removers

This is the national trade association for the UK. It’s been going for over a hundred years so it knows a thing or two about removals. By offering back-up services to its members the BAR co-ordinates and oversees best practice for all its member companies. This involvement extends to the customers of its members; from information on finding a mover to arbitration facilities in case of a dispute. It installs and administers the BS EN 12522 quality standard and ensures the annual inspection of the system. The depth of knowledge that the secretariat has is second to none. I

Its crowning achievement is the recognition by the Department of Trade and the development and implementation of the Code of Practice. This is the only code that is recognised and monitored by the OFT’s Consumer Codes Approval Scheme. The BAR is a non-profit making organisation and is the only true voice of our industry – beware others that are actually limited companies simply making money by supplying a fancy badge.
