Reads Removals is a local well established family run business with over 75 years experience, offering the ever developing and expanding areas of Peterborough, Cambridge and Northampton a first class service. The company like its home town, grown from a small one man operation in 1929, to the well organised operation of today, serving these major towns.

Founded by George Read and using a one tonne truck started to transport a variety of goods before it was decided to concentrate on furniture and house hold removals. The period from 1933 saw George expand the fleet of vehicles develop and grow. Premises were acquired, firstly in Stone Lane, Peterborough then in London, the first removal vehicle was purchased , proudly displaying the company logo which was used right up to 1995.

World War II

During the years of the second World War many problems arose, rationing, bombs, the blackouts, the requisitioning of premises to name but a few. Likewise "Reads of Peterborough" was nationalised and George subsequently sacked. However on de-nationalisation, George re- tendered for the company he had originally founded, and regained the bulk of the fleet, allowing once again for the development of Reads of Peterborough under his leadership.
